In all liklihood, I'm a no go for the Bike-o-Rama. I was really looking forward to the challenge and get some more time in the parks. But, I coach my middle son, Grayson's, baseball team. We went undefeated and I am coaching the All Star team. We have a scrimmage that day, and I will be busy with this through July. 

Our Columbia chapter of Trailblazers is having an "O" meet 8/26. I will keep you up on that and see if you want to come do it. Also, it looks like we need a third for 9-1-1. Derrick has bailed on the last two training rides, no calls, no messages, just NO SHOW. Rory and I will be raging fit for 9-1-1 so think about teaming with us and finishing on the top step.

What's up...the bike 0 should be a pretty cool event....have had pretty good 
feedback from maybe a dozen racers....let me know if you need a third for 
the 9-1-1, I'm in....we have scored some real nice stuff from sponsor..with 
more on the way....any extra stuff we're saving for the Gold Rush 
Race....next race isnt until July at the Mitchell MTB assault....Ernie and 
Charlie are gearing up for the big 'un...PRIMAL QUEST...same team set-up 
that won the Rock, Roll and Rattlesnake last month...I seriously need to do 
a two or three day race...but between the entry fee costs...travel 
time...logistics...support crews...I'm currently not working while attending 
a course called AOMP...full time classes through end of July...alot like 
College again...and good for training....

Just to make sure....despite the flooding of Lake Crabtree area..the ride is 
still on....I am setting the course friday..so anything that is impassable 
or damaged can be avoided...either way..if the routes require some 
hike-a-bike then that of course would be expected as part of the 
ride....make sure to bring your maps that are listed on the website....I 
will have some the Umstead and Crabtree maps for out-of-towners

Here's a public "thank you" to Bruce for organizing the Rogue-Bike 0 Rama!

I think I counted about 11 people there at the start. Not sure how they 
all did in the end, but I timed myself at 3:30 even. At least 5 people 
were enjoying cold drinks by the time I rolled back into the parking lot 
- another solid mid-pack finish. :)

For those of you not present, here's some of what you missed. The mess 
that Alberto left behind in the Triangle threw some extra adventure into 
the mix, but nothing that couldn't be overcome. Bruce's route provided a 
good overall tour of the Umstead/Crabtree/Cary greenway areas that many 
of you should already be familiar with (if you're in the Triangle). The 
maps were basic, but provided enough detail to work with. I found myself 
trying out a few new ways to get from A to B, instead of sticking purely 
with the greenways or main park trails like I do on training rides. For 
the most part that worked out fairly well. Bruce even worked in the 
scenic bike/ped bridge over the 440 beltline. If he had set #8 a little 
further down Hillsborough Street, I would have had an excuse to stop at 
Ben&Jerry's for some refueling. Maybe next time.

How much interest is out there for more Rogue events? I'd be willing to 
do the grunt work to help set up another course like this if there is 
interest.

I think I counted about 11 people there at the start. Not sure how they 
all did in the end, but I timed myself at 3:30 even. At least 5 people

For those of you not present, here's some of what you missed. The mess 
that Alberto left behind in the Triangle threw some extra adventure into 
the mix, but nothing that couldn't be overcome. Bruce's route provided a 
good overall tour of the Umstead/Crabtree/Cary greenway areas that many 
of you should already be familiar with (if you're in the Triangle). The 
maps were basic, but provided enough detail to work with. I found myself 
trying out a few new ways to get from A to B, instead of sticking purely 
with the greenways or main park trails like I do on training rides. For 
the most part that worked out fairly well. Bruce even worked in the 
scenic bike/ped bridge over the 440 beltline. If he had set #8 a little 
further down Hillsborough Street, I would have had an excuse to stop at 
Ben&Jerry's for some refueling. Maybe next time.

How much interest is out there for more Rogue events? I'd be willing to 
do the grunt work to help set up another course like this if there is 
interest.

Pat, try Smith Lake off Honeycutt Road, over by Simmons Army Airfield.
It is on the eastern side of FT Bragg.  It has an easy trail and a more
difficult trail, not to be confused for quite difficult.  The long trail
is a nice 6 mile ride or so, plenty of sand and ups and downs.

We have another trail to the Southern side of FT Bragg, commonly known
as ASP.  The directions are a little more complicated for that. If you
want some maps, write me another note at robert.mcclintock at us.army.mil.

We could use some good news after hearing about Ulrich and Basso being 
suspended from the Tour de France today!


So here is an update on our very own Charlie and Ernie, racing as 
24Seven at Primal Quest.

They have currently moved up the leader board into the top 25 overall. 
My guess is the last few legs of mountain biking, which is a strength, 
have helped.  They are currently on the long slickrock bike trails, so 
hopefully they can continue to move up.

While top 25 may not sound impressive, remember this is the big money 
race of the year and all of the top US teams and many of the top 
international teams are there.


Other teams that we have raced with in the top 20 include Might Dog 
(#17) and Moat (#13).  Moat was the team that won the Florida Coast to 
Coast the year Charlie and I raced with some of my old FL team mates, 
when we placed 6th overall.  And Mighty Dog often wins the local races 
like NGAR or SMAR.

Check out the web page -- there are some great pictures and this sounds 
like a truly amazing race...  Some crazy ropes sections, white water 
swimming, long mountain bike and trek sections with crazy elevation 
gains, etc.

  The website is addictive, been "watching" all week.  If you haven't checked it out you really ought too.  Looks to be an amazing race, but really tough....of the 89 teams that started only 44 are still ranked on the full course - with 18 withdrawn, 8 unranked, and 19 bumped down to the short course.  Makes Team 24Seven's place even more impressive!
