[Triangle-AR] Night Navigation Practice?

Hey Patrick...
To clarify on the "non-standard" UTMs, there was nothing non-standard about the UTMs themselves...only the RD's use of them in that race. The UTMs listed in the passport were not the actual locations of the CPs. Rather, they were used to get racers in the general area. I have never seen this done in any other race. UTMs almost always are used to pinpoint the exact location of the CPs.
As far as night nav goes...that's a tough one. The only thing I can say is you just have to get out there and navigate in the dark. 24hr rogaines are great places to learn because you're navigating in the dark for half the race (They're also great because you can do as much or as little as you want, they're less expensive than a full blown AR and they usually have free food!). You can also go out to Uwharrie or other places and practice at night...just get a map, circle some places of interest and go for it. But don't practice at Umstead at night though...they'll get you for trespassing...as Sean and I found out first-hand ;-)
BOK is putting on a night O-meet on April 1...that may be useful too.

Hi All -
Does anyone have a good way to practice night time navigation? Preferably in the greater Raleigh area.
And in case you were wondering, I have already heard many suggestions of wearing dark sunglasses (and one vote for a welders mask) at the next BOK. :-)
Also, as someone new to using UTM, could Brian and Jeff expand on what the "non-standard use of UTM's" were on the Blackbeard race back in October? Just hoping for some AR education not involving pain!
Thanks.....Patrick Downie
