We have some mountainbike experience and have done a little orienteering with the Backwoods Orienteering Club. We have a lot of questions on how to get started. i.e., which race to start with? Where can we learn to rappel, kayak? And any general tips you are willing to share. Our major dilemma, as I said is which race to start with?

Hi,

I don't know of any shorter adventure races coming up in the next few
months, but there are orienteering races and there is the annual soup
bowl duathlon (x-country run, mtn bike, x-country run). Orienteering
will teach you navigation and you can work on you x-country running at
the same time. The schedule is:

I don't have a link for the soup bowl but you can check out
http://trianglemtb.com/ as they usually have information in the forums.

Finally, I suggest joining the triangle-ar mail list. It has been a bit
quiet but there are some posts for getting together to train. And
hopefully in the spring we can put on another training race in the area.
Those are great places to start.

/Sean
