FYI,
I just heard of this today...sounds like a good training ride.
Group MTB ride at Lake Crabtree and Umstead with Charlie Storm
When: Thursdays 5:30 pm until dark. (means ride time 2:30-3:00)
Where: New greenway parking lot across from the tennis courts and skate
park at Godbold Park. It is off of Maynard in Cary, between Harrison ave
and Evans rd.
How: intermediate to advanced level endurance ride. We won't ride hard,
but will keep the ride moving. Mixing it up with trail and Umstead
roads. We will do the exact route every week for about the first hour
until we hit the first trail. This way anyone running late can catch up
or people can join in along the first part of the route.
Who: Charlie Storm will usually lead the ride.
What: Have your bike aired, lubed and ready the night before.
Directions: exit 287/Harrison ave. off of I-40. R off of exit towards
Cary. 2.3 miles, R on Maynard rd. 1/2 mile R into parking lot across the
street from tennis courts and skate park.TriangleMTB and the staff at
Harris Lake County Park have teamed up for some much needed maintenance.
Come join fellow riders and park staff from 10 AM - 2 PM on the Hog Run
Trail system. Meet at the trail head. Please bring your own hand tools
such as loppers, pick axes, shovels, rakes etc... Don't forget your
gloves and some hydration. This is the first of a series of planned
trail days for this great resource in southern Wake County. Volunteers
should contact Greg Shuster.
The ride is going good and growing each week. There was 9 people and 11
people the last two weeks. We are riding a medium pace and trying to
stay together. The ride will always be on until the time changes.
We have been doing the same route every week for about the first hour,
so anyone running late can join up along the way. I reccommend starting
your first time at the beginning to you know the route. We have been
taking the greenway the whole way to crabtree, the the dirt road into
umpstead, left at the water fountain, right up to the horse parking
area. right at the top of the horse parking area and the next left onto
the new dirt road on the back side of umstead.
